Experience the unique heritage of the Richmond Region, where four centuries of history and modern-day culture come together with unprecedented accessibility. Explore the area’s rich legacy through our Richmond travel guide, and discover the many reasons that the Region is so easy to love.
Drive (Think about carpooling!)
The Region's minimal traffic makes traveling throughout the area a breeze. Enjoy easy access to Interstate 95 (which runs north-south) and Interstate 64 (which runs east-west), providing swift routes to destinations all across the eastern half of the United States.
For travel throughout the Region, rely on Interstate 295 – a beltway that loops around downtown Richmond, connecting areas east and west of the city. State Route 288 runs from I-95 in Chesterfield County to Route 250 / Broad Street in Goochland, while Interstate 895 – also called Pocahontas Parkway – connects Richmond International Airport to points south of the city.
Tolls ranging from 20 cents to $2.50 are found on the Downtown Expressway, Powhite Parkway, and Pocahontas Parkway. For more information, click here. The City of Richmond is built on a grid – which makes navigation quite simple – although many downtown streets are one-way, with the notable exception of Broad Street.
